Tserkva of the Synaxis of the Archangel Michael
Ukrainian Tserkva of the Moscow Patriarchate
(Ukraine, Zakarpattia/Transcarpathia Region, Velikobereznetsk district)
The church is of Boyko type. It is the southernmost building of this type, located as far as in Transcarpathia. It is a unique example of a tripartite church with a belfry located above the “babiniec” (matroneum).
It was erected in 1745, and it is a mortise and tenon (log) structure on a roughly rectangular plan with a tripartite interior division. Above the sanctuary and nave are quadrilateral, stepped mortise and tenon (log) domes braced with cross beams. Above the „babiniec” (matroneum) is an unusual three-storey tower topped with a tent roof. The church is girded by a roof with prominent eaves supported on profiled beams.
In the interior, a structural partition between the „babiniec” (matroneum) and the nave has been preserved, as well as an iconostasis, an altar from the 18th century, and icons from the 17th-20th century. The whole is complemented by contemporary painting decoration on cardboard panels hung on off-set of the interior. Next to the church is a free-standing mortise and tenon (log) bell tower covered with a tent roof.
